Task 1 Website Interface Design Analysis

Websites are designed according to multimedia design principles to make a beautiful and user friendly website to attract audience. Audience are attracted to clean, easily accessible websites. The design principles involved are white space, colours, the 2/3:1/3 rule, balance, flow, typography, consistency and simplicity.

1. Website 1: https://www.jardan.com.au/

 Introduction

This website is about Australian family-owned business called Jardan company who is selling hand made furniture (sofa, tables, chair, bed) and homewares online.

Target Audience

People who is looking for furniture and home decor

White Space: White space used in contrast to wordings has enough space and balanced. The typography is not overcrowded.

Typography: Typography for 'Collection' is bigger than the small thumbnails to give emphasize on it for the users. It is also white in colour with grey background to make it more clear.

Colour: Peach, pink and hues of green colours are used.

The 2/3:1/3 rule: This rule is applied for menu box. 1/3 space is for choosing menus and other 2/3 is for image.

Consistency and simplicity can be seen in every page of this website where same kind of colours, and fonts are used.

2. Website 2: http://paninibay.com/

Introduction

This website is about those who want to know about Panini Bay and it has all the information about contacting the place and also directions to visit this restaurant.

Target Audience

People who is looking for Italian dishes

White Space: Image is added on the left followed by typography on the right with efficient white space to avoid overcrowding.

Flow: The eyes of audience goes to the image on left and then to the right shows the flow in designing website.

Typography: Big font is used for 'ITALIAN CUISINE' to highlight the words for audience.

Typography: 'FRESH & LOCAL' is highlighted with capital letter and bigger fonts compared to
                      other words.

Balance: The picture on the left is balanced with words on the right.

Balance: The words and description is balanced with a picture on right side.

Colour: The colour used are mostly white, and the colours of food like green, black, brown and orange.

3. Website 3: https://www.nationalgeographic.org/

Introduction

This website is about National Geography, which has information on planets, animals, education, explorers, impacts and etc.

Target Audience

People who want to learn about animals and gain knowledge on geography of the world

1/3:2.3 rule: This rule is applied here for drop down menus vs the thumbnails below it.

Colour: The colour used are mostly grey, black, yellow, white, blue and brown.

Typography: The main topic is highlighted with yellow and with bigger fonts compared to smaller white fonts below that.

Typography : 'INVESTING IN GROUNDBREAKERS AND CHANGEMAKERS' is bigger compared to description below it to make user give attention to it first.

The same principle applied here in the typography 'IN LOVE, AND TO TAKE ACTION'.

Balance: The thumbnails on the right is balanced with the description on the left.

The last part is full of links to enable user to easily access to the page they want.

Simplicity and consistency: The page is simple and is not overcrowded. Simple typography with picture is used above. The colour also consistent.

Flow: The flow of the eye of viewer is from left to right. After looking at the picture on the top, the flow will be below to the description and it is eye-pleasing.

Balance: The description on the right was balanced with the image on the right.

2/3: 1/3 rule can be seen where drop down menus are smaller compared to the image below.

Reflection:

I learned about principle of web designing and how a website is designed to make it attractive and easily used by the user. The website should be simple, balanced, with consistency in colour as well as typography to make it look beautiful and user-friendly.
